The core element of the coating technology is portfolio of well-tested, proprietary zinc-rich metal powder mixtures. The mixtures are designed for different properties of the final coating, depending on the particular application. Layer properties, including coating thickness, corrosion resistance, surface roughness, abrasion resistance, sealer and topcoat compatibility can be all be adjusted and optimized.
ZNK+ coating technology is based on mechanically applying a zinc-rich multi-metal powder mix to the surface of steel parts, including parts with recesses and complex features. Proprietary powders are combined with proprietary plating chemistry to generate relatively thin, dense layers compared with traditional mechanical zinc plating. The resulting surfaces are dense with very low porosity, and partially diffused into the steel substrate. The further application of sealers and primers ensure a high level of both galvanic and barrier protection, and relatively resistant to abrasion during subsequent installation and use.
ZNK+ also offers a line of topcoats, applied over and binding very tightly to the metallic base layer. This optional topcoat layer can provide a number of important functions: additional barrier protection of recesses, improved survivability in treated lumber, color matching and reduced friction via PTFE and similar additives.
